Trauma, Asylum and Refugee Mental Health Experience

Elida has extensive experience supporting people who have experienced trauma, forced displacement, violence, exploitation, trafficking, abuse, threats and loss. She understands that these experiences can deeply affect a person’s sense of safety, trust, memory, sleep, relationships, confidence and daily functioning.

Her approach is gentle, trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. She works at the client’s pace, supporting emotional safety, stabilisation, coping strategies, confidence and long-term recovery.

Elida has particular experience working with asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of trafficking, including clients involved in immigration, safeguarding and NRM-related processes.

Psychological Assessments and Specialist Reports

Alongside therapy, Elida has experience conducting psychological therapy assessments and preparing written reports within her professional scope.

Her reports may be used in immigration, asylum, safeguarding, NRM, trafficking and vulnerability-related contexts. Assessments are carried out in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive way, with care taken to support clients who may find it difficult to speak about painful or distressing experiences.

Elida does not provide psychiatric diagnosis or legal conclusions. Her reports are based on psychological therapy assessment, clinical presentation, psychometric screening where appropriate, therapeutic formulation and professional opinion within her role as a Counsellor and Psychological Therapist.

Clinical Supervision

Elida provides clinical supervision for counsellors, trainee therapists, BACP members and practitioners working in emotionally demanding roles.

Her supervision approach is integrative, reflective, trauma-informed and ethically grounded. Supervision may include client work reflection, ethical practice, risk and safeguarding, boundaries, trauma-informed practice, cultural sensitivity, professional development and the emotional impact of client work.

Elida aims to offer a supportive and empowering space where practitioners can reflect honestly, develop confidence, strengthen ethical practice and feel more hopeful in their professional work.

Cultural and Language Specialism

Elida has specialist understanding of Albanian culture, family systems, gender expectations, migration, shame, stigma, identity and traditional values, including awareness of the impact of the Kanun in some clients’ lived experiences.

This cultural knowledge informs her work with Albanian-speaking clients and helps create a therapeutic space where clients can feel understood, respected and less alone.

Where possible, E H Therapy Clinic supports clients to access counselling in their first language, helping them express emotions, memories and experiences with greater safety and clarity.

Therapeutic Approach

Elida’s approach is integrative, meaning she draws on different therapeutic models depending on each client’s needs. Her work may include person-centred therapy, trauma-informed therapy, CBT-informed strategies, psychoeducation, grounding and stabilisation, transactional analysis, creative and narrative approaches, emotional regulation work and culturally sensitive therapeutic support.

At the heart of her practice is the belief that healing becomes possible when people feel safe, believed, respected and empowered.
